Benjamin Abana

Benjamin Abana is a Copenhagen-based painter of Nigerian and Danish heritage whose expressive figurative practice explores identity and human emotion through vibrant colour palettes and striking portraiture. He gained national recognition in 2019 after winning the title of Denmark’s Best Portrait Painter on Danish national television.

His collaboration with New Afro began in 2022 in Cologne with the exhibition Basic Human Emotions. That same year, he presented his work alongside painter Francel Aris Dagbeto in Mainz as part of the exhibition Rencontre (Atelier Christiane Schauder).

This collaboration continued in 2023 in Copenhagen (Denmark) with the presentation of an innovative body of work, Basic Human Emotions: The NFT Exhibition, marking an exploration of digital formats alongside his painterly practice.
