Cheria Essieke Bayer

Cheria Essieke Bayer is a creative, living in Germany since 2013. As the founder, creative director of New Afro and independent art curator, she is committed to showcasing the richness and diversity of African cultures and artistic practices, while creating international platforms for African creatives. Her work engages with themes of cultural identity, heritage, and social transformation.
She has curated all New Afro exhibitions to date, including Basic Human Emotions (2022 & 2023), Rencontre (2022), La Teranga en couleur (2023), Restitution… et après ? (2024), I Love My Solitude… but I’m Meant to Be a Lover (2024), Naza Po Tozali… On The Way To Find Myself. (2025), and Héritage… Mémoires en mouvements ? (2025).
Through these projects, she develops immersive and thought-provoking exhibition formats that foster dialogue and deepen audiences understanding of cultural and social dynamics. Drawing from her experience across African and European contexts, her practice seeks to bridge cultural divides and contribute to culturally driven social development.
